carpe diem - seize the day

We Made It!
We successfully reached the Magnetic North Pole after 24 days on the ice! We survived a near catastrophic tent fire, the worst ice conditions for years, and were almost stranded at the Pole when the plane broke a ski on landing. Apologies for the delay in updating the website, but the last week has been manic. Please see the Diary/News section for an update, and the Photos section for some pictures from the expedition.
Also, there are photographs on Dan Byles' website: www.danielbyles.com
A big thank you to everyone who supported and sponsored us - we couldn't have done it without you.
You can also see some photos, video footage, and news from the race on the website provided by the race organisers by clicking here.
Trust Update - Unfortunately, our grand plans to raise £100,000 for the Trust with our Polar expedition turned out to be a little over-optimistic. The fund raising proved considerably slower than we'd hoped. The Trust will still open for applications towards the end of 2007, but will have to grow from a smaller acorn that we'd planned...
The Carpe Diem Trust is a newly registered charity, and we hope to become fully operational towards the end of 2007. The aim of the Trust is to help ordinary people who are planning to do something extraordinary. There are lots of motivations for wanting to seize the day and do something amazing: perhaps you have suffered a personal tragedy or setback and are looking to rebuild your confidence; maybe you feel that you want to make a positive difference and leave your mark on the world; you may not believe that you're currently fulfilling your own potential; or you might just want to prove something to yourself and to others. Remember - what is extraordinary for one person is very personal. You don't have to row an ocean or climb a mountain to achieve something amazing. What is your personal Everest? The Carpe Diem Polar Expedition is an expedition to the Magnetic North Pole in April 2007 which is raising money for the Carpe Diem Trust, and incorporates Jan Meek's personal challenge to become the oldest woman ever to walk/ski to the Magnetic North Pole. "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn\\\\\\\'t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." (Mark Twain)
