Sponsorship
We are looking for sponsorship at all levels individual and corporate. No sponsorship is too small or too large.
In order to raise funds to establish The Carpe Diem Trust, we are competing in the 2007 Polar Race as Team Carpe Diem. Our aim is to raise, through donations and corporate sponsorship, sufficient funds to initially cover the cost of competing in the race and then create the working capital to award grants.
Individual Sponsorship
Please consider making a personal donation to our expedition. Raising the money for an expedition like this is arguably much harder than actually walking to the Pole!! Every little bit helps, and all funds over and above the cost of the expedition will go into the Carpe Diem Trust. So we are asking everyone who reads this site to sponsor us - no amount is too small (although 10p per mile would be £35 each...but if you can't afford that much please give anything that you can)!
Individuals can sponsor The Carpe Diem Polar Expedition by several methods:
1. Donations by Text. You can donate £3 straight away simply by texting the word JAN to 85222 from your mobile phone. Why not send us more than one text and sponsor us £6, £9 or more?
2. Donations by Credit Card. You can sponsor the Carpe Diem Polar Expedition through PayPal (you do not need a PayPal account). Your donations can be made using a credit or debit card through the secure link below.
3. Donations by Post. To make a postal donation, please make your cheque payable to 'The Carpe Diem Trust Polar Challenge' and send it to the following address:
The Secretary The Carpe Diem Trust 34 Knighton Road Stoneygate Leicester LE2 3HH
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
Corporate Sponsorship
During and after their 1997 Atlantic Row, Jan & Dan generated over £1million in media value for their sponsors (report available on request). As the first mother and son team ever to attempt to walk to any Pole, the Team expect to generate considerable media interest once again. In the longer term, the establishment of The Carpe Diem Trust will ensure enduring exposure and positive publicity for the original sponsors indefinitely
Why Sponsor The Carpe Diem Polar Expedition? Media interest in the unusual dynamics of a mother and son adventurous team was well proven in 1997, when Jan and Dan successfully spent 101 days crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a 23 foot wooden rowing boat. Of all the teams taking part in the Port St Charles Atlantic Challenge none generated as much television, radio or newspaper coverage as Team Carpe Diem.
The team's newspaper coverage alone has been assessed as having a total media value of over one million pounds.
The Carpe Diem Polar Expedition sees Jan and Dan united in adventure once again, this time in the company of family friend Richard Profit. As the first mother and son to attempt to walk to the North Pole the team are already starting to engender considerable media interest, and building on their experience with the media during the 1997 Atlantic Rowing Race, the team expect to generate a greater total media value for this adventure.
Benefits of Sponsorship
The Carpe Diem Polar Expedition represents an exceptional opportunity for potential sponsors. Corporate sponsors with the vision to become associated with this exciting adventure will benefit from considerable publicity through television, radio and newspaper articles before, during and after the expedition. Jan and Dan's involvement with the Atlantic Rowing Race generated a total media value in excess of £1million for those sponsors who recognised their media potential. You can claim a share of that publicity for a fraction of that sum.
Sponsorship Options We face two challenges: raising funds for the expedition and for The Carpe Diem Trust; and then walking/skiing to the Magnetic North Pole. Of the two challenges, the former is arguably the more difficult.
We are ideally seeking an overall team sponsor, who will benefit from exclusive media rights to this adventure. This would include the right to change the team name, exclusive use of your logo on all expedition equipment and clothing, total cooperation by all team members with any corporate PR activity, ensuring that your name and logo will be associated with The Carpe Diem Trust indefinitely as Friend of the Trust and Founding Sponsor, plus all of the benefits of overall sponsor. See below for a list of benefits.
However, if you are not in a position to sponsor the expedition in its entirety, we urge you to consider a more modest sponsorship or donation. We have an enormous mountain to climb before we even set foot on the ice, and every little bit helps. Smaller sponsors can still benefit from the considerable publicity we will generate, and will enjoy many potential benefits as appropriate to the sponsorship level. See below for a list of benefits.
Benefits to you The Sponsor
During and after their Atlantic Row, Jan & Dan generated over £1 million in media coverage value. As the first mother and son team to ever attempt to walk to any Pole, the team expect to generate considerable media interest once again. For those with the vision to become part of the sponsorship of this challenge and help create the Carpe Diem Trust they can share that publicity for a fraction of that price.
The Benefits:
1. Team Name (major sponsorship only). Instead of the 'Carpe Diem Polar Expedition', the team could become the 'YourCompanyName Polar Expedition', or a variant on this. You would have the total rights to the team name, which will feature in all press articles and publicity.
2. Company Logo.
Your company logo writ large on all team clothing and equipment, including sleds, skis, tents etc.
3. Photographic Opportunities at the Pole.
a. We can set up interesting and unusual photo ops such as the team in dinner jackets at the North Pole, relaxing and toasting success with a stiff drink chilled with North Polar ice. b. Your company logo on a large flag can be filmed and photographed fluttering at the Pole. c. Photographs and video will be taken of the team, tents and equipment at various stages of the expedition with your logo prominently shown. d. Any other photographs or filming as requested by you or your PR department, possible including company products or tailored to your company message/philosophy.
4. Display of Polar Equipment.
Battered skis or other equipment (covered in your company logo) that have taken your Team to the Magnetic North Pole could be displayed at your company Head Office once the expedition is over.
5. Potential Documentary.
We are in talks with a number of production companies for a mini-documentary to be produced covering the planning/training, the fundraising challenge, and ultimately the expedition itself. A short documentary from the Atlantic Rowing Race (which was covered by BBC Midlands Today in 1997/8) can be viewed as an example how this might look.
6. Team Launch & Return Parties.
The launch party and return party can leveraged as major PR events, giving guests the opportunity to meet, not only the Carpe Diem Polar Expedition team members, but other fascinating Polar explorers and ocean rowers known to the team. A true Explorers Evening.
7. Other PR Activity.
All three team members will be available to your PR team for any PR activities, events or photo opportunities as required. This might include the appearance of the team at corporate or media events, including in the capacity of after-dinner or motivational speakers if appropriate. Jan in particular is already a superb motivational speaker with over eight years of public speaking experience. 8. Ongoing Exposure Through Public Speaking.
Sponsors of Jan & Dan's Atlantic Row continue to benefit to this day from Jan's career as a professional motivational speaker. Since 1998 she has spoken to hundreds of companies and organisations in the UK and Canada, with slides and video continuing to advertise sponsor's logos. Sponsoring the Team name in particular will benefit from this exposure indefinitely. Just a few of the organisations Jan has spoken to, many of whom have asked her to come back following this latest adventure, include:
Institute of Directors, IBM, Vodaphone, Glaxo Smith Klein, Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals, Lloyds TSB, NHBC National Conference, British Venture Capitalist Association, and many more.
9. Association with The Carpe Diem Trust. The Carpe Diem Polar Expedition is the principal fundraising project for 2006/7, in order to raise the initial working capital for The Carpe Diem Trust. By becoming a major sponsor to the Polar expedition, your company will ensure that your name and logo will be associated with the Trust indefinitely as Friend of the Trust, and Founding Sponsor. It is not anticipated that sponsors will have any role in the running of the Trust, nor will the name of the Trust be changed.
No offer of sponsorship is too small!!
